Hugh Poland's personal life mission is to know Christ and make Him known, and part of the way that is fulfilled in his life is as a worship leader and a writer. "Steal Away is more than the title of a book--it's a deliberate lifestyle of seeking Christ daily and being renewed by His Word," he says.
Poland is the author of three books published by Judson Press:
Steal Away: Devotions for Baseball Fans
The Master Carpenter: Devotions for Woodworkers
Intentional Walk: More Devotions for Baseball Fans
Hugh resides in the Houston area with his wife Karen, who has her own counseling practice as an LPC, and their three daughters. He is currently the Minister of Creative Arts at Woodridge Baptist Church of Kingwood, TX, where he has served since March of 2000. Prior to that, he served churches in Corpus Christi and Pasadena, TX.
A member of the Society for American Baseball Research, Hugh treasures the lessons the game of baseball has taught him over the years. He is also a member of the Woodworkers Club of Houston, allowing him to pursue another of his creative passions--woodworking.
Poland has a BA from Houston Baptist University and an MDiv from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. As a musician, he leads worship from the piano or guitar, and has performed with or arranged music for several groups including community orchestras, high school bands, and church music ministries. As a free-lance writer, he has written numerous articles for Pray! Magazine, Stand Firm, Today's Christian, The Student, The Church Musician, and Preachingtoday.com. He has been a guest on several radio and TV programs.
